A single clause published in a Dutch regional newspaper on Monday morning has, by Thursday lunchtime, generated six separate articles across the English football press without acquiring any new information.

Dutch media have issued a significant intervention regarding the player's future.
None of the six articles contacted the original newspaper. Two cited each other. One cited a fourth article that had itself cited the second, forming what media scholars describe as a closed loop and what the parish describes as Thursday.
By Thursday evening the story had been aggregated a seventh time, on this occasion with the word "exclusive" above it.
The player involved has not been asked, and is understood to be on holiday.
